Content Manager
Zohran Mamdani has emerged as one of the most effective political communicators on social media, building a digital presence that extends far beyond traditional campaign tactics. His content consistently drives high levels of engagement, and sparks conversations that travel well beyond his immediate follower base.
To understand this success, we analysed his social media activity across Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Facebook, X, and YouTube using Visibrain. The data reveals a strategy built on platform-specific storytelling, highly shareable content, and messaging that resonates strongly with clearly defined communities. Together, these elements show how Mamdani has turned social media into a sustained engine of connection to his audience.
Between the election and inauguration, Mamdani maintained an exceptionally active publishing rhythm, sharing 657 posts across his social media channels. This steady flow ensured his presence remained constant in users’ feeds during a moment when political attention was particularly high and narratives were still forming.
The result was more than 1.42 billion impressions, demonstrating how sustained activity can translate into massive cumulative reach. The impressions timeline further reinforces this strategy: rather than declining after election night, visibility remains elevated with several peaks throughout the period. This pattern suggests deliberate publishing around key moments, announcements, or appearances. In practice, Mamdani’s approach resembles a newsroom-style communication model, maintaining a rapid publishing cadence to stay embedded in the evolving news cycle and retain control of the narrative.

Mamdani’s highly visible, high-frequency social media strategy is also beginning to influence campaigns beyond the United States, something that can be clearly observed through social listening. In France, the mayoral campaign of Rachida Dati in Paris has adopted a similarly platform-native approach, producing short-form videos and highly shareable content designed to circulate widely across social networks.
Monitoring online conversations shows how several of these posts have generated significant buzz, contributing to a surge in digital visibility around her campaign. This weekend’s vote will ultimately reveal whether a strategy driven by viral social momentum can prove just as effective for a right-leaning candidate as it has for Mamdani’s left-wing campaign.
Beyond performance metrics, Mamdani’s messaging also reveals a disciplined narrative strategy. An analysis of the most frequently used expressions across his posts shows a strong emphasis on collective identity and community-focused language.
Terms such as “our city,” “New York City,” and references to neighbourhoods including Queens and Astoria appear repeatedly throughout his content. At the same time, phrases like “working people,” “affordability,” and “public service” highlight the social themes at the centre of his messaging. This combination of place-based identity and people-focused policy framing helps create content that feels both personal and politically meaningfu, a balance that often drives stronger engagement and shareability.

Mamdani’s social media performance illustrates how digital communication has become central to modern political strategy. Through sustained publishing, platform-specific storytelling, and clear messaging, he has built an online presence capable of reaching millions and shaping public conversation at scale.
For communicators and campaign teams, the lesson extends well beyond politics. In an environment where attention shifts rapidly and narratives evolve in real time, the ability to monitor online conversations and respond strategically has become essential. Mamdani’s campaign offers a clear example of how social listening insights can inform a communication strategy designed not just to reach audiences, but to mobilise them.
